CSS helps Girl Scouts Deliver Cookies
Chicago, June 2007 / --
It's the busiest time of the year for Girl Scouts, the time when friends and neighbors anxiously await their deliveries of Thin Mints, those chocolate wafers dipped in a rich chocolaty coating with a burst of pure peppermint, Do-Si Do's, deliciously smooth peanut butter sandwiched cookies, and other mouth-watering sensations. CSS helped get those cookies from the warehouse to customers' homes by developing an online computer ordering system for the Girl Scout council cookie program in Genesee Valley, New York, a partnership that supports 2,500 active volunteers serving 11,000 girl scouts in five counties.
Lonna Cosmano is the Product Sales Manager for the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley. She worked closely with CSS to develop the timesaving, cost-effective online application and had this to say about the results: "Before this system, the council was taking all the orders from the troop leaders over the telephone. The online ordering system reduced the amount of phone time by 80% so staff could then attend to customer needs in a timelier manner during this busy time of year."
Troop leaders were thrilled that they could place their orders 24/7, eliminating the frustrating experience of playing "phone tag" while trying to meet their order deadlines. In addition, the troops could enter their sale information and the system would calculate a suggested order. This was very well received, especially by those troop leaders who were new to the cookie selling process.
Regarding the experience and process of developing the system, Cosmano says, "The staff at CSS was wonderful to work with. They listened to my needs and clearly communicated what could be implemented in a timely and cost-effective way. CSS responded very quickly when an issue needed to be addressed. The company is very professional and I plan to continue to work with them on this project and hopefully other projects in the future."
