CSS Brings New Focus to the Iconic Hollywood Sign

Chicago Software Solutions configures enhanced live video feed to give global audiences a "Reel Life" experience.

Chicago Software Solutions announces the successful implementation high-traffic video feed configuration services for the HOLLYWOOD SIGN. CSS was tapped to bring the iconic HOLLYWOOD SIGN back into focus and updating and enhancing updated live video feeds for the Hollywood Sign Trust website.The Hollywood Sign Trust's mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the Sign as well as maintain the official Hollywood Sign website.

The original video feed configuration used by the Hollywood Sign website suffered from an inefficient bandwidth configuration. As a result, the video feed buffered badly, froze, and cut out -- particularly during traffic spikes. CSS saw the need to meet the Sign's symbolic role as the beacon of the entertainment industry with significantly improved video performance.

Based on the recommendation of Wowza Media Systems, Betsy Isroelit of the Hollywood Sign Trust approached Chicago Software Solutions to consult on the project. CSS was chosen due to their reputation as experts in the implementation, customization, and extension of the award-winning Wowza Media Systems products. Wowza is an industry-leading video streaming solution with the capability of delivering the best possible on-demand video content to audiences of all sizes and in a wide range of physical locations.

CSS performed an initial analysis of the video delivery system and then installed a remote instance of Wowza for the client. Much of the performance tuning included configuration of the customer's Amazon AWS server as well as encoding the T1 line's raw camera feed into the format (RTMP) that the Flash player would consume more efficiently and reliably.

Ms. Isroelit was the director of this project in Hollywood and worked closely with CSS on this project. Betsy stated that CSS was wonderful to work with and did a "great job" on the conversion. The Hollywood Sign Trust organization is pleased that anyone in the world can now clearly see the view of and from the cherished landmark. With improved video performance, more people throughout the world can view this national treasure in full live streaming video.
